Description of Event/Crime : Margaret Kemp and Joseph Austin were
walking east on Silver SW when a BMA approached the two with a knife and
wearing a woodland camoflauge mask over his face. The suspect later
identified as Nathaniel Barney threatened to stab or cut the two if they
didnt hand over their purse and backpacks. Joseph handed nathaniel his
back pack which contained reading books and other personal items.
Nathaniel took the book bag and ran west on Silver. Officers were given
a description of a blue or dark colored van which left the area at a
high rate of speed. Air 1 was in the area at the time of the call and
was able to find the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on
the van belonging to Nathaniel and on Officer Fox's approach he
immediately noticed a camoflauge mask on the passenger side of the van.
Nathaniel was positively identified during a field identification and
the victims book bag was observed in the back seat of the van. The van
was sealed pe!
nding a search warrant and Nathaniel was booked after he denied being
involved in any type of robbery during questioning. Detective Chris
Juarez with the Armed Robbery Unit is the case agent.
