Description of Event/Crime : Northeast Team 1 conducted a POP project
for the Month of June. Hot Spot research was completed and the data
indicated an on-going problem in the area along the San Mateo corridor
from I-40 to Academy.
One of the biggest issues we have been encountering during day shift
hours is the number of homeless related contacts we are being dispatched
to. This includes complaints of panhandling, trespassing, drinking in
public and individuals that are passed out and in need of medical
attention. As such, the POP project for June was labelled "Operation
Helping Hand" and our emphasis was to address the above mentioned
homeless issues.
With the assistance of the Horse Mounted Unit and the COAST Team, the
following results were recorded during the operation of this plan:
Homeless Contacts / Referrals for Community Services - 35
Down and Out Medical Referrals - 10
Panhandling Citations Issued - 25
Criminal Trespass Citations Issued - 18
Drinking in Public Citations Issued - 13
Moving Citations Issued - 82
Parking Citations Issued - 24
Red Tags - 5
Arrests 2F / 3M
Littering Citations Issued - 5
Overall, the reaction from the business community and the citizens who
frequent this area was extremely positive. Job well done.
