Description of Event/Crime : A 61 year old female said she was asleep, woke up and went into her closet to change. The door would not open all the way. She looked behind the door and saw a man's pale legs wearing socks and blue boxer shorts (underwear). She said the man pushed her to the floor and grabbed her around the neck and strangled her until she lost consciousness. She said she woke up and listened for a second to see if the male was gone. When she tried to sit up the man grabbed her around the neck once more and strangled her until she lost consciousness again. When she woke up the second time she no longer heard or saw the man in her bedroom so she locked the bedroom door and called police. She then said she noticed her wallet had been moved and $21.00 was missing out of it. She said nothing else seemed to be missing. She said her sons had a couple of friends over last night but she thought they were all gone this morning.
One of the victim's sons, was given a description of the male offender and he said it sounded like his brother Casey's friend Eli Perkins) who stayed the night last night. Later in the day, Narcotics detective J. Walsh contacted Casey during an unrelated knock and talk and Casey told him that he heard about the incident with his mom. Casey told Det. Walsh he would give police any information he needs to find Eli. Det. Walsh contacted THE FOOTHILLS IMPACT TEAM. Det. Geoff Stone responded and his investigation pointed strongly to Eli as a suspect. Det. Stone and Stott contacted Eli at his family's home. Eli was cooperative and detailed his version of the attack. Eli was placed under arrest.
Further investigation showed Eli had stolen money, drugs and had admitted to "snooping" in the victim's home for hours before the attack. Eli made additional comments pointing to his intention to harm the victim.
Eli is in MDC on $100,000 bond
