Description of Event/Crime : On 08/29/2011, at approximately 1817
hours, Officers from the Foothills Area Command responded to a shooting
that occured at 425 Western Skies ST. SE. Officers arrived and located
a subject identified as James Martinez. Martinez had suffered a gun
shot wound to his abdomen. Rescue arrived on scene and transported
Martinez th UNMH.
During the preliminary investigation, field units were met with
many obsticals inculding uncooperative witnessess and false statements.
Detectives John Stott and Jeff Jones from the FH IMPACT team responded
to the scene to take over the investigation. Detectives were inititally
given a suspect name of Jayquan also known as "20". Due to the
inconsistent statements from witnessess on scene Detectives were
sceptical of the name Jayquan as being the identity of the shooter.
Detectives were able to confirm that the shooter fled the scene in a
gold Chevrolet Suburban prior to Officers arrival.
Detectives with the FH IMPACT Team continued to coduct field
interviews with many residents at 425 Western Skies. All residents
seemed very reluctant to speak with law enforcement. At the end of the
day on 08/30/2011 Detectives still did not have a name of the shooter.
On 08/31/2011, Detective Jones contacted the apartment management
who advised of a female resident that owned a gold Chevrolet Suburban.
Through an investigation Detective Jones located the female resident at
her place of empolyment. Detectives arrived at the females work and
observed a gold Chevrolet Suburban parked in the parking lot. Contact
was made with the female who initially denied knowing anything. After a
while the female identified her boyfriend as, Jamar Simpson, and stated
that he was driving her Suburban the night of the shooting.
Detectives constructed a photographic array where the victim, James
Martinez was able to positively identify Simpson as the man who had shot
him. The APD Gang Unit located Jamar near the area of San Pedro and
Gibson where he was taken into custody without incident.
