Mayor Richard J. Berry Honors APD Officer
ALBUQUERQUE - On Friday, June 15, 2012, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized an officer from the Albuquerque Police Department for his role in saving the life of a woman at an Isotopes game. This week’s Friday’s Hero is Officer Robert Stockton.
While working the Isotopes game last month Officer Stockton was patrolling his area when he noticed a woman in distress and immediately went to her to try to figure out what was wrong.
Officer Stockton quickly noticed that the woman seemed to be choking and needed help. He performed the Heimlich maneuver on the woman and after three attempts was successful in getting the food dislodged. The thankful woman was able to return to watching the game and enjoying her evening because of the life-saving actions taken by Officer Stockton.
Officer Stockton’s immediate action and alertness saved this woman’s life, and reinforces the multi-faceted roles that police officers are always implementing. Officer Stockton went above and beyond and was aware of his environment and this led to yet another citizen being protected by and APD Officer.

Mayor Richard J. Berry Recognizes This Week’s
Employee of the Week
Employee of the Week: Val Chavez, Donald Gutierrez, George Lopez, Donald Martinez, and Steven Rael, Department of Municipal Development
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Val Chavez, Donald Gutierrez, George Lopez, Donald Martinez, and Steven Rael are all members of the Department of Municipal Development’s Street Maintenance Division. These gentlemen are all being honored as this week’s Employees of the Week.
These men are being honored for their roles in helping a frantic elderly woman get her husband to urgent care.
Earlier this year, a woman was told by her doctor to immediately take her handicapped husband to urgent care. She went outside to prepare the car and realized that a storm the night before had left inches of snow on their driveway.
The lady began to panic and knew that this would take her at least an hour to be able to clear the driveway for them to be able to leave the house. She heard a truck from the City of Albuquerque and a crew working in the street and she ran to them to inform them of her situation.
The entire crew understood that the lady needed immediate help in clearing her driveway. So these men all went and helped to clear the driveway enough for the lady to rush her husband into urgent care. The situation was serious enough that her husband had to go to the hospital following his stay in urgent care.
Without the help of these men, the lady may not have been able to get her husband the care that he needed as quickly as necessary. For these men to rush to the side of a citizen who truly needed their help, shows their dedication to people they serve.
